World University Service(WUS) is an international Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on education, development and human rights. It was founded in 1920 in Geneva under the title ‘European Student Relief’, which was renamed ‘World University Service’ in 1950. Today, it has a network of national committees in more than 60 countries.
WUS facilitates involvement of academics and student in national and international programs and to higher education in a partnership with poor and underprivileged and promotes them to work jointly for social justice, freedom and human dignity. Since last decade emphasis is given to the defense of human rights in the education sector and to the educational needs of women. WUS also enjoys a consultative status with several United Nations Agencies.

WUS–India has been actively involved in enrichment of the academic milieu of the country over the past 52 years. Its activities have shaped and guided by eminent person like Dr.Zakir Hussain. Prof.N.K.Sidhanta, Dr.C.D.Deshmuk, Prof.Malcom Adeseshiah and Dr.V.Ramalingaswami. WUS-India has established cooperatives, book-banks, hostels and funded Health Centres.

WUS–Delhi University Committee (DUC) has been the seat for WUS-India since its existence. WUS-DUC in collaboration with WUS-India has been actively engaged in different educational exchange programs with other Universities of India and the World.
The functioning of WUS-DUC is based on democratic principal. Its General Body comprises teachers and an equal number of students who represent various Colleges and Faculties of Delhi University. It elects its Executive Committee for a specified period. Its real strength lies in the Local Committees at Colleges/Departments/Faculties of Delhi University. It is directly accountable to the Executive council of Delhi University.

Main aims of the WUS-DUC are :

 To harness of the resources of the academic community towards strengthening the society through      educational programs and encouraging participation in societal issues;

 To stimulate students and teachers participation and promote self reliance;

 To promote human rights and combat discrimination in all forms;

 To promote global interactions amongst the student fraternity at the national and international levels

WUS-DUC in addition to other contributions, was instrumental in the creation of four WUS Health Centres in the North, South, East and west parts of Delhi and a Working Women’s ‘Hostel on the North Campus’. Further. It has also been the chief architect for WUS policies and programs at national a International levels.
